Learning and Development

We recognise the value of being supportive of learning and development to both our organisation and our employees. We want to make sure that we provide all employees with the skills and support to undertake their jobs to the best of their ability.

When you join us you will have a thorough and structured induction programme to help you settle into the company. You’ll also have a six month probationary period, during which time your line manager will meet with you regularly to see how you are getting on; whether you need any further training or support, and to offer advice and guidance on areas of your performance.

After the probationary period, we don’t stop supporting you. We aim to continue our encouragement and support throughout your career; including regular appraisals and individual training plans. Traditional training methods such as training courses are mixed in with job shadowing, secondments and on the job training.

We fully support our staff in progressing their careers with North Somerset Housing and currently have a number of staff undergoing professional qualifications including NVQs in housing, BTEC in Management. We also welcome and encourage employees to move onwards and upwards within the organisation and over the last year have had 10 employees change jobs within the company.
